Summer Trip Along the Coast of Portugal with an EV: Tips for a Perfect Trip

Powerdot, the leading operator of electric vehicle charging points in Europe, announces the acquisition of €165 million in green financing from ABN Amro, BNP Paribas, ING, MUFG Bank, Santander, and Société Générale, to significantly bolster its goal of further expanding ultra-fast charging points.

This funding marks a turning point in Powerdot's mission to improve electric vehicle infrastructure across Europe and the transition to emission-free transport. Additionally, Powerdot has secured over €465 million in financing commitments to date.

Each participating bank collectively demonstrated a commitment to supporting sustainable initiatives and the development of green infrastructure. This participation from a group of banks reaffirms the widespread confidence in Powerdot's vision and operational capabilities, reflecting a collaborative effort to drive significant advancements in the electric vehicle charging sector.

“This substantial funding is a testament to the confidence our financial partners have in Powerdot's vision and operational capabilities. With this funding, we are poised to accelerate our implementation strategy, bringing electric vehicle charging solutions to more locations in Europe and supporting the widespread transition to sustainable transport,”says Luís Santiago Pinto, co-founder and CEO of Powerdot.“Powerdot's ambition and long-term goals allow us to explore different financial tools for funding. We enthusiastically welcome ABN Amro, BNP Paribas, ING, MUFG Bank, Santander, and Société Générale in our mission to accelerate sustainable mobility.”

The €165 million green financing line – with an additional €60 million of uncommitted expansion capacity – will expand Powerdot's network of electric vehicle charging points to reach over 3,100 locations by 2026, improve technology and user experience, and enable the growth and development of its team. This green financing was structured in accordance with the Green Loan Principles set by the Loan Market Association and constitutes a strategic milestone that reflects the company's commitment to low-carbon mobility and innovation. With this investment, Powerdot is well-positioned to lead the construction of a robust and reliable electric vehicle charging infrastructure, facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles and contributing to a greener future for all.

As part of this funding, Santander acted as the sole financial advisor and green financing coordinator, McKinsey & Co. served as business and technical advisor, Clifford Chance and PLMJ acted as legal advisors to Powerdot. Gibson Dunn and Morais Leitão served as legal advisors to the lenders, and EY acted as financial and tax advisor and model auditor.
